Michael Wood

Rebecca’s films include the dramas THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN and A BIT OF SCARLET. Her many documentaries include Ricochet with David Bowie, CHILDHOOD: thirteen films for the BBC, SIMON NGUBANE STILL ON STRIKE filmed under apartheid in South Africa (Best Documentary Award); DESIRE (Audience Prize Turin and Berlin Film Festivals); BARCELONA with art critic Robert Hughes, NOTES FROM A DIRTY ISLAND with Bill Bryson and BETWEEN THE LINES – DARFUR for PBS and BBC. Films she has produced with Michael include SADDAM’S KILLING FIELDS, an award winning film about the Marsh Arabs in Iraq; HITLER’S SEARCH FOR THE HOLY GRAIL, on the Nazis abuse of history and archaeology; and epic adventures such as IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT, CONQUISTADORS, IN SEARCH OF MYTHS AND HEROES along with IN SEARCH OF SHAKESPEARE and THE STORY OF INDIA. Their recent six-part BBC series Story of England explored the lives of ordinary people in a Leicestershire village set against the national narrative across fifteen hundred years (Best New TV Programme in 2010, Voice of the Viewer and Listener­: ‘the most innovative history series ever on TV’ according to The Independent).

Many films on special needs issues, including HOLD ME TIGHT, LET ME GO and ROUGH AUNTIES about a multiracial group of volunteers in South Africa working to protect the rights of sexually abused children.  (World Cinema Jury Prize in Documentary at Sundance).

A founding member of S.L.A.G (Southern Ladies Animation Group) she was co-director/co-producer on their animated short, IT’S LIKE THAT and assistant animator on Adam Elliot’s Oscar-winning short HARVIE KRUMPET.  She went on to work on his recent feature animation MARY AND MAX.
